Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Dr. Korir Sing’Oei on Friday led a team of foreign service officers and diplomats in presenting the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's condolences books from across the Kenyan missions abroad to his widow Mama Ida Odinga and the family.

During the presentation, Dr. Korir announced that going forward, Kenya with other foreign actors will be holding an annual conference in honour of Raila’s contribution to global peace, justice, and democracy.

Dr. Korir said the Kenyan missions abroad received thousands of condolences books with messages of sympathy following Raila’s sudden death.

The PS lauded the late Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader’s legacy, noting that he was a global man who chose unity over division at a time of need.

He stated the books will be kept at by the National Archives, Museum, and the National Library and will be made accessible to future generations.

Ida Odinga, on her part, thanked the Kenyan government for supporting the family amid the tough journey that culminated in Raila’s send-off.

At the same time, she told the diplomatic corp and foreign affairs team that she is ready to serve in her new position as Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

“It is a great honour, and I will do it with all my knowledge, capacity, and knowing very well that I’m representing our great country of Kenya,” she said.
