The event, presided over by Lands Principal Secretary Generali Nixon Korir, was significant for the area, which had long been excluded from land formalization processes.
PS Korir, who was representing President William Ruto, emphasized that the issuance of titles is part of the government’s commitment to addressing historical service delivery gaps in the region.
"I have been sent here by the President to ensure the residents of Churo/Amaya receive their land titles, fulfilling a promise made during the distribution of titles to Chemolingot residents," said Korir.
In addition to the land titles, PS Korir also highlighted the government's commitment to supporting local education. He announced plans to assist AIC Churo Girls High School by funding the construction of a new laboratory and providing fencing for the institution’s security.
"I have been informed that the school lacks a laboratory and needs to be fenced. I will consult with my counterpart at the Ministry of Basic Education to address these needs," he added.
Tiaty MP William Kamket, who hosted the event, expressed gratitude on behalf of the community for the government's efforts in resolving the long-standing issue of land ownership. "After many decades of waiting, we finally have what was rightfully ours," Kamket remarked.
Former Councillor Gideon Kamama, now a member of the land adjudication committee, reflected on the historic nature of the event: "For many years, we were excluded from land ownership, and now we feel truly Kenyan," he said.
Daniel Kapedo, chairman of the local land adjudication committee, celebrated the change, stating, "We were squatting on our own land. We are no longer squatters. We thank President Ruto's government for this opportunity."
Community elder Musa Amogon expressed the gratitude of the local population, noting, "We were treated unfairly by previous governments. Now, under President Ruto’s leadership, the Pokot people are seeing title deeds for the first time."
