Govt launches probe on Silverstone Air Services after series of incidents

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has began conducting an audit on Silverstone Air Services following a series of air incidents and a recent accident involving the airline’s planes.

On Monday morning, a plane belonging to Silverstone Air was forced to make an emergency landing at Eldoret International Airport, after a tyre fell off during take-off.

Barely 24 hours before the tyre incident, a Silverstone aircraft hit and damaged another plane at the Wilson Airport in Nairobi on Sunday morning.

About two weeks ago, the same airline hit headlines for the wrong reasons after one of its planes skidded off the runway and crash landed shortly after take-off at Wilson Airport.

In a statement issued on Monday, KCAA said the investigation of the incidents and accident is being conducted by the Air Accident Investigation Department (AAID) of the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development and Public Works.

“The audit is being performed in order to determine the level of compliance with the current Civil Aviation
regulations and their own company approved manuals and procedures,” said KCAA Director General Capt. Gilbert Kibe.
