Govt now trains its guns on Nakurus notorious Confirm gang
Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i
has declared war against an alleged criminal gang in Nakuru called ‘Confirm’ said
to be terrorizing residents.
Speaking on Saturday while addressing worshippers
at Ekerubo SDA church in Kitutu Masaba, Nyamira County, the CS said the
government is aware of schemes orchestrated by the said group and will act on
them.
“There is this group called Confirm in Nakuru…we
are ready for them, we shall camp in Nakuru,” said Matiang'i.
“I will be there together with the Inspector
General…wanajiita Confirm…tuko tayari kuwa confirm sasa, you can't be
terrorizing Kenyans, women, in Nakuru...we are ready for them kabisa.”
In the same light, the CS reassured the
public of the government’s commitment to dealing with insecurity in the
country, especially the Rift Valley area which is prone to many attacks.
“We have laid down proper security
mechanism to also deal with other war prime areas in Rift Valley,” Matiang'i
noted.
He also called on police officers to be
vigilant in addressing the situation, warning them against being used by
politicians to cover up crimes.
“Our work is not to escort criminals, so that
people go to sit somewhere to loot the country. We cannot be safeguarding those
stealing from our people, following them wherever they go and holding meetings
at night. Whenever we find them, we will take action,” he said.
CS Matiang'i further urged Nyamira residents
to join the rest of the country in dedicating July as a month of prayer towards
a peaceful electioneering period.
“We also want to dedicate July as a prayer
month ahead of polls. We are talking to all religious leaders across the
country,” Matiang'i said.
