Gov’t releases Ksh.8.7 billion for Inua Jamii programme
The government has released Ksh.8.7 billion for payment to beneficiaries enrolled under the Inua Jamii Programme which seeks to cushion vulnerable persons from poverty and hunger.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Nelson Marwa, the Principal Secretary, State Department for Social Protection said the payments will be credited into the accounts of the duly registered beneficiaries beginning Monday, July 12.
According to the PS, each of the beneficiaries will receive receive Ksh.8,000 being payment for months of March, April, May and June 2021.
At the same time, the government has also disbursed an additional Ksh.26.3 million as top up payment to 12,054 beneficiaries of the Nutrition Improvement Through Cash and Health Education (NICHE) Complementary Programme.
Those enrolled under the NICHE program, will receive an additional amount of up to Ksh.4000 per household.
“This NICHE Complementary programme targets households with children under two years, pregnant and lactating mothers who are already enrolled in the Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Programme from Marsabit, Turkana, Kitui, Kwale and West Pokot Counties,” reads the statement.
To avoid crowding in bank halls, beneficiaries of the programme have been advised that the funds will remain in their accounts for a period of six months hence there is no need for all of them to rush to the banks to collect the money at the same time.
The Inua Jamii programme under the Ministry of Labour targets orphans and vulnerable children; older persons and persons with severe disabilities.
