Gov’t releases Ksh.22 billion school capitation funds

The Ministry of Education has released Ksh.22.02 billion as
capitation funds for Term 2 to support learners in all public basic education
institutions across the country.
According to Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, the
substantial funding has been apportioned across various levels of basic
education.
The capitation is allocated across different levels of
education, including Free Primary Education Sh. 1.37 billion, Free Day Junior
School Education Ksh. 8.9 billion, Free Day Junior School (Special Needs
Education) Ksh. 118, 417, 921.35 and Free Day Secondary Education Ksh. 11.6
billion.
The ministry noted that the release of the capitation funds
is intended to facilitate the seamless conduct of school activities in the
term.
In the statement, the government reaffirmed its commitment
to fulfilling its constitutional duty to learners and by ensuring every child gets
free and compulsory basic education.
"School heads and principals are directed to ensure
prudent use of these public resources entrusted to their care for the benefit
of learners, and to desist from imposing any unauthorised levies," the
statement read.
CS Ogamba emphasized that the Ministry will take a firm
stance against any misuse of the allocated resources.
"As a Ministry, we will deal firmly with any verified
cases of misappropriation of resources and the imposition of unauthorized
levies," stated the CS.
