Gov’t to slaughter weak animals in Baringo, West Pokot
The government, in conjunction with the Kenya Meat Commission (KMC), is set to kick off livestock off-take programme in drought-stricken Baringo and West Pokot Counties.
The programme, which has been undertaken in 23 other counties in the country, is targeted at alleviating losses to herders in drier areas especially at the time when the drought situation is prevailing in the country.
Water Principal Secretary, Prof Fred Segor, disclosed that the government has already dispatched funds to KMC to facilitate the exercise.
“The government has given KMC some good money to start the program in Saimo Soi ,Tiaty ,Barwessa ,Baringo South ,Mogotio and parts of Baringo North,” said Segor.
Segor noted that the exercise will also help farmers increase nutritional value to the remaining animals because they would have sufficient feed.
