Gov’t to spend Ksh.42 million on Kodiaga and Kibos Prisons renovation

The national government has set aside Ksh.42 million to rehabilitate sewerage systems at Kodiaga and Kibos prisons in Kisumu to curb pollution on water bodies.

Commissioner-General of Prisons Wycliffe Ogalo says the plan is to put in place a long term sustainable measure to address issues of pollution once and for all.

NEMA has in the past identified the two facilities as some of the pollutants in Lake Victoria.

He says Kodiaga prison will be renovated at a cost of Ksh.34 million while Ksh.8 million will go to Kibos prison for major sewerage system overhaul.

Ogalo says the two correctional facilities were built in the 1960s and the population has overstretched the capacity of the sewerage system.
