A university degree is highly valued mainly because the certificate is deemed to boost the holder’s chances of employment in a competitive labour market. Parents invest heavily on university education believing the costs would be recouped in a good job and a commensurate bright future. But jobless graduates are increasingly taking up menial jobs that were the preserve of the lowly educated. Owino Wayne spoke to two graduates who are working as watchmen. Is theirs a case of stooping too low or a pragmatic respect for labour dynamics?
