Granny, 5 others burnt in house after alleged power surge

Six people were seriously injured after a suspected electricity fault inside their house.

A 70-year-old granny, a middle-aged woman and four children have been rushed to Machakos Level Five Hospital with severe burns.

Reports indicate that the granny has high percentage burn injuries on her body while the rest of the family also sustained burns and suffered asphyxiation.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night at Kathemboni Estate.

According to Machakos County Director of Emergency Services, David Mwongela, there had been a power outage for several hours before the accident.

He told Citizen Digital that when electricity was restored, electronic appliances burst into flames which then set the entire house ablaze.

The three-bedroom rental was razed to the ground, Mr. Mwongela added.
