Green Party calls for U.S. presidential election recount

The U.S. Green Party is calling for a recount of the U.S. presidential vote in three states — Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

All three are states where Republican Donald Trump scored a narrow victory.

Green Party candidate Jill Stein says she has no proof of problems, she just wants to be sure.

“We do not have evidence of fraud. We do not have smoking guns. What we do have is an election that was surrounded by hacking.”

She points to the hacking of voter registration lists in Arizona and Illinois, and the hacking of the computers in the Democratic National Committee as evidence that electronic voting machines are not secure.

The only way to be sure of the result is to count the paper ballots.

Voting rights Attorney John Bonifaz says the public deserves that.

“The American people deserve public confidence in the integrity of our process and if we don’t ever look at the ballots, we don’t ever verify the vote, why should we expect that public trust?”

Stein received only 1-percent of the vote.

Democrat Hillary Clinton received the most individual votes, but fewer electoral votes than Trump.

So far, her campaign has not commented on the recall effort.
