GSU officer linked to death of Langata woman remanded for 21 days

A General Service Officer (GSU) linked to the murder of a woman in Nairobi's Langata neighbourhood will be remanded for 21 days while  investigations into the alleged killing continues.

This is according to an order issued on Monday by the Kibera Magistrate Court, where the suspect, Victor Otieno Ouma, was arraigned.

Ouma appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Irene Kahuya after being linked to the death of a 28-year-old woman who allegedly jumped to her death on Sunday, January 14.

The investigating officer, Johnson Wanjohi, told the court that some exhibits, including used condoms, were recovered from the house where the suspect allegedly jumped.

He told the court that based on the evidence, the decedent, Nelvine Museti, must have been with a man at the time of her death.

“Some lead investigations shows that the deceased was in the company of a man in her house where they must have spent the night together, they must have enjoyed their times together and the condom that we found as an exhibit shows, some drinks were used too,” the officer told the court on Monday.

Investigators discovered empty beer bottles, rolls of bhang, some glasses with suspected alcohol contents, and two half-full bottles containing an unknown beverage.

Wanjohi told the court that the samples had been submitted for forensic analysis.

“I want to inform the court that Some of the items recovered have been forwarded to the Government Chemist for Toxicology and DNA analysis,” he added.

Wanjohi asked the court to hold the suspect for three weeks during his submissions, stating that this would allow the police to complete their investigation and record witness statements.

The officer who is attached to the Langata police station did not object to his detention and will remain in lawful custody at the Langata police station.

Ms. Museti, who lived alone on the third floor of Ascort Apartments, is reported to have fallen to her death on January 14 in an incident that left her neighbours horrified.

Police officers who responded to the incident discovered her body lying at the back of the apartment block; it was initially determined to be a suicide.

“The scene has been processed by crime scene personnel and the body which had no physical injury but blood oozing from the nose has been moved to the city mortuary awaiting post-mortem and further police action,” a police report from Langata police station recorded.
