Gusii leaders reunite to plot communitys future

Gusii leaders from Kisii and Nyamira Counties have come together to chart a way forward for the community in a bid to promote development.

Led by veteran politician and Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri, the leaders said the Gusii community was ready to play a part in the historical events happening in the country following the rapid political changes witnessed in the recent past.

Ongeri was flanked by Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi, Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni, Women Representatives Janet Onger (Kisii) and Jerusha Momanyi (Nyamira) as well as MPs Alpha Miruka (Bomachoge), Joash Nyamoko (North Mugirango), Ben Momanyi (Borabu), Shadrack Mose (Kitutu Masaba), Richard Tong’i (Nyaribari Chache), Innocent Obiri (Bobasi) and Simba Arati (Dagoretti North).

The leaders, who addressed a press conference on Sunday after attending a church service at Nyakoiba in Bomachoge, unanimously agreed to work together as had been shown by the country’s top leaders; President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga.

They added that the (in) famous handshake between President Kenyatta and Mr. Odinga was “a recipe for peace in the nation.”

Borabu legislator Ben Momanyi stated that every community in the country was regrouping to plan their future on matters development, adding that “the Gusii community is set to chart their destiny too.”

They leaders also called upon the Gusii community to support their unity in a bid to foster social, economic and political development.
