Harambee, Uhuru na Kazi: Ruto pays tribute to Mzee Jomo Kenyatta at memorial

Harambee, Uhuru na Kazi. These are the three words that DP William Ruto described as the legacy of the country’s first President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

Speaking during the memorial ceremony on Thursday, the DP said this is the philosophy that birthed the country.

“Uhuru na kazi philosophy is the foundation the 3 Presidents have anchored the Big Four agenda. Today as we remember Mzee it should inspire us to work together behind President Uhuru Kenyatta,” he said as he welcomed his boss to speak.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on his part described his father as a man who dedicated his life to the service of the nation.

“41 years ago is still vividly..some of us can’t imagine life without him. It constantly reminds us the purposes he stood for…what we do everyday that makes impact in someone’s life..what motivates us to do what we do. We will then realize that we moving Kenya forward,” he said.

Earlier at the mausoleum, religious leaders led prayers with close family members including Mama Ngina, First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, Muhoho Kenyatta, Jomo Gecaga and Beth Mugo.

Other leaders present include former Othaya MP Mary Wambui, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen, Majority Leader of the National Assembly Aden Duale and others.

Mzee Kenyatta died in Mombasa on August 22, 1978. He was 86 years old.

His son Uhuru Kenyatta was only 14 years old at the time.
