Hate case adjourned after legislators Mutua, Jumwa fail to appear in court
A Nairobi Court on Friday adjourned a hate speech case against five legislators to Monday next week.
This was after MPs Florence Mutua and Aisha Jumwa failed to appear in court for the mention of their case.
Junet Mohammed, Timothy Bosire and Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama were, however, in attendance.
Through lawyer James Orengo , the court also heard that the two legislators were not aware that the mention date was set for Friday.
Resident Magistrate Stella Mutuku has now directed that the two appear next week on Monday without fail.
“I will not issue warrant of arrests now, let the accused persons voluntarily appear in court on Monday,” she ruled.
In the case, MPs Junet Mohamed, Timothy Bosire, Aisha Jumwa have since denied hate speech, incitement to violence charges and are out on cash bail of 300,000 shillings each.
Separately, the prosecution has been directed to issue the defense with witness statement in Moses Kuria and Ferdinand Waititu hate speech case.
The two appeared before Magistrate Charity Aluoch and are out on a cash bail of 2 million shillings each.
Their case will be heard on the 30th of August this year.
