He was taken to church for prayers over his mental illness. He ended up killing congregant.

A 68-year-old woman in Migori County was killed on Wednesday night by a mentally ill man who was taken to the Maranatha church by his mother for prayers.

Kuria West sub county police commander Cleti Kimaiyo said the deceased identified as Pauline Akumu was in the church together with another congregant, offering prayers, when the mentally ill person arrived in the church in company of his mother.

Mr.Kimaiyo said the mentally ill person identified as Fred Mutatiro, 25, walked out of the church and returned with two bricks which he used to attack the deceased and another congregant identified as Samwel Muriga.

The police boss said the male congregant managed to escape, leaving behind the deceased.

The mentally ill man has been arrested and is being held at Isebania police station pending psychiatric analysis.
