Hearse involved in accident while heading to funeral in Kirinyaga

Mourners heading to a funeral in Kirinyaga County were left in shock after the hearse ferrying their kin's body was involved in an accident at Difathas area on the Mwea-Embu highway.

According to police reports, a private vehicle hit the hearse while avoiding an allegedly speeding miraa-ferrying probox which was en route to Nairobi from Embu County.

No injuries were reported during the incident with the casket being swiftly moved to another hearse in a bid to deter curious onlookers who had gathered at the scene.

“This is the first time such an incident has happened. I was shocked because I thought the corpse was outside the coffin,” one of the mourners, Joyce Wambui said.

Confirming the incident, Mwea-East Sub-County Police Commander Daniel Kitavi said that a KenGen employee based at Kaburu station was driving the vehicle that rammed into the hearse.
