Help us build ECD centres, county gov’t tells NGOs

Chief Officer of Education Dr Samuel Okuro on Tuesday asked non governmental organisations operating in Kisumu County to partner with the county government in the construction of early childhood development classes and rescue centres.

Speaking at Pandipieri Primary School, Dr Okuro noted that the ECD building constructed by the UNICEF and CONERD Foundation is a good example to the county government of Kisumu.

“Construction of similar structures have commenced at Nyachabala and we are looking forward to having similar buildings in all ECD centers across the Kisumu County,” he said.

He appealed on other partners, including NGOs, philanthropic groups and organisations operating in Kisumu County to visit the place and assist in the construction.

On tourism, culture and Sports, Mrs Lucy Marengo noted that children living with disabilities are being denied their rights to education.

“County Government of Kisumu has set aside funds to construct rescue centres in Kisumu and Nyando to assist disabled children and to better education in the county,” said Mrs Marengo.

She further appealed to the parents with children living with disabilities to avoid hiding them but take them to school.
