High Court Nullifies Police Recruitment Exercise

While delivering the ruling high court judge Justice Isaac Lenaola further ordered the National Police Service Commission to conduct a repeat exercise.
The court quashed the entire process on the grounds that the NPSC violated the National Police Service Act by delegating the recruitment to sub county committees who are an unknown entity to the constitution and which might have led to recruitment irregularities.
In the ruling, Justice Lenaola also cited lack of transparency and accountability in the July exercise which public organs must abide by.
The court also noted with a lot of concern that the commission did not involve the Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo in the recruitment exercise.
The court further commented on the commission’s decision to annul recruitment in 36 stations saying it was unfair as there was no evidence presented before the court showing the investigations were undertaken that qualified cancellation of the results.
The commission has been directed to put its house in order and repeat the entire exercise countrywide.
