The High Court in Nairobi has quashed a decision that named Dik Dik Road in Kileleshwa, Nairobi after COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli.

The court ruled on Monday that there was no public participation in the decision to rename the road.

Formerly known as Dik Dik Road, the street was renamed Francis Atwoli Road in honour of the trade unionist in May 2021 by the Nairobi County government.

The signage was however removed and set on fire by unknown people shortly after that before Atwoli announced that the county government had re-erected it and put CCTV in place to monitor it from vandals.

The burning down of the sign elicited mixed reactions from Kenyans on social media with some condemning the act while others supported the destruction.
