H&M apologises for monkey goof on black kid

Swedish based mega clothing brand Hennes & Mauritz (H&M) has apologised for a photo featuring a black child wearing a green hoodie printed “coolest monkey in the jungle.”

This was after global uproar online after New York Times columnist Charles M. Blow drew attention to the photo on Sunday, asking whether the retail clothing giant had “lost their minds.”

Many others picked up on it and it quickly went viral with many terming it “racist.”

One social media user aptly put it; “So putting an African American child in a hoodie with ‘coolest monkey in the book’ isn’t racist at all.”

Others were not as offended saying it was not racist and calling out African Americans to “stop being so freaking sensitive.”

But majority of the people were offended and demanded an apology from the global giant retailer while others said they would boycott.

The company has since apologised and issued a statement.

“This image has now been removed from all H&M channels and we apologise to anyone this may have offended,” H&M told Daily News. The picture has since been replaced with a generic photo of the green apparel.
