A family in Rachuonyo
East, Homa Bay County, is pleading for justice over the mysterious death of
their 40-year-old kin, who died in a police cell after being arrested.
The man identified as
Timon Otieno reportedly died when he was in a police cell at Othoro Police
Station.
According to his
father, John Ogwang’, Otieno was arrested at Wang’apala village in Kawuor on
Thursday night for allegedly vandalising security lights at Wang’apala
Secondary School.
However, the following
morning, he was found dead in the police cell.
Ogwang’ said police
officers told him his son died by suicide, which he doubts because the body had
injuries, pointing to possible assault.
Homa Bay County Police
Commander Lawrence Koilem said the matter had been handed over to the
Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers for investigations.
Koilem said
appropriate legal action will be taken upon findings of the DCI officers.
Otieno’s body was meanwhile
moved to Jawabu Funeral Home.
