House help missing after allegedly stealing Ksh.4M cash, Ksh.500K jewellery from employer
Police are searching for a 45-year-old house help who is alleged to have
fled with Ksh.4 million cash stolen from her employer’s house in Karen, Nairobi.
Miriam Mwelu Muinde’s employer is said to have returned home from work on
Wednesday, June 22 only to find that she was absent with the cash and jewellery
worth about Ksh.500,000 missing.
A police report on the incident indicates that the Ksh.4 million had
been placed on their wardrobe by the husband.
“It was reported by Charity Waithira Mungai that upon return from work
at around 1500 hrs she found the house girl missing, and upon checking in the
house, she realised that her jewellery worth about 500,000/- and cash Ksh.4
million which had been placed on top of their wardrobe by her husband one Nelson
Ributhi Gaichuhie, missing as well,” reads the report.
The 45-year-old house help who is suspected of stealing the money is
said to have switched off her phone at around 10 am on Wednesday.
Her Safaricom line signal was last captured at Rongai area before going
off.
When police officers visited the home, there was no sign of a break-in,
putting Mwelu – who had been left in the house alone as the main suspect.
The incident comes barely a month after another house help was accused of
stealing Ksh 104 Million from her employer in Langa’ta.
Shelmith Kiprono was arraigned at
the Kibera Law Courts on May 30, and was arrested in Eldoret after
fleeing the employer’s home.
