Human Rights body deploys violence monitors

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHr) has deployed 84 monitors in 29 counties to check on and take action against party aspirants and members engaging in violence during nominations.

KNCHR vice chairman, George Morara, says the commission has received reports of chaotic incidents and has appealed to Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet, to investigate them and take action.

Morara also wants Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Keriako Tobiko, to push for prosecution of all perpetrators of violence reported countrywide during primaries by different political parties.

KNCHR warns, if unchecked, increased politically instigated violence, poor nomination preparations, absence of party registers might compromise the credibility of the August 8, 2017 General Election.
