Huntdown on after two lionesses escape Nairobi National park

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has announced that it is hunting down two lionesses that have escaped the Nairobi National Park.

In a statement on Monday, Wednesday, KWS said that the felines have been spotted in Sholinke trading area, in Kajiado East Constituency, Kajiado County, approximately 8.3 kilometres from the park.

"Latest coordinates : 37 M 261961 UTM 9834651. KWS teams are actively managing the situation," said KWS.

KWS rangers and veterinary teams have been deployed to recapture and relocate the lionesses.

"The operation is ongoing, with public safety as the top priority," the statement added in part.

Area residents have been urged to remain cautious and keep children indoors and any sightings should be reported through toll free number 0800 597 000 or through WhatsApp on 0726 610 509.
