Party leader and Kiambu gubernatorial aspirant William Kabogo has distanced
himself from DP Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza coalition.
Speaking
during the Kiambu gubernatorial debate on Sunday, Kabogo said that he is now a man
standing on his own. He noted that he has not been in the coalition’s campaign
trails of late.
“Things
change, right now I am on my own and I am doing quite fine, “Kabogo said in the
debate aired live on Citizen TV.
Additionally,
Kabogo was asked whether some of his gubernatorial manifestos augur with those of a presidential candidate he is supporting.
“I do not
have a manifesto of any presidential candidate as we speak, I will be dealing
with my manifesto which is just to improve the lives of the people of Kiambu
and make it easy to survive,” he said.
Kabogo, who
now disassociates himself with the William Ruto-led coalition officially joined
the Kenya Kwanza on March 14.
He joined
the coalition alongside Kimani Wamatangi and Moses Kuria, who are also his
opponents in the Kiambu gubernatorial race.
On June 16,
Kuria and Kabogo announced that they are pulling out of Kenya Kwanza rallies,
claiming that UDA is intimidating other parties in the coalition.
This was
after an altercation between Kabogo and Kimani Wamatangi, who is UDA’s
candidate in the Kiambu race.
"It is clear from the
foregoing that whereas the UDA Party has no problem with ANC and Ford Kenya
candidates in western Kenya, Maendeleo Chap Chap party candidates in lower
Eastern and Pamoja African Alliance candidate in the Coast Region, a decision
has been made by some quarters that parties with a strong footing in Mt. Kenya
region are not wanted in the Kenya Kwanza Alliance,” the duo said in a letter.
