Cabinet Secretary nominee for Gender, Arts
and Culture Stella Lang'at told Parliament on Sunday that her net worth is
Ksh.70 million.
During her vetting before the National
Assembly Committee on Appointments at County Hall in Nairobi, Lang’at said her
assets span property, land, farms, cattle as well as shares.
“My net worth is about Ksh.70 million
ranging from assets, homes, pieces of land, a few cows, some avocado orchard
and a few shares and securities,” she told the vetting committee.
Among the top action points Lang’at pledged
if approved is ensuring transparency and accountability in the management of
the Kenya Copyright Board, which she termed the “lifeline of Kenya’s performing
artists.”
She also pledged to address gender-based violence
and push for witness protection to ensure success in the prosecution of
abusers.
“Rise in femicide cases is a concern. It is
an area that needs research and documentation and strong witness protection,” Lang’at
said.
A career civil servant, Lang’at was the Director
of Administration in the Ministry of Interior before she was nominated CS by
President William Ruto last month.
She had previously worked in the State
Department of Housing and Urban Planning.
If approved, Lang’at will succeed Aisha
Jumwa.
