Kitutu Chache South Member of Parliament (MP) Anthony Kibagendi has shed light on a physical altercation with his Kitutu Chache North counterpart Japheth Nyakundi during a burial in Kisii County last Friday.
The two legislators fought over a microphone after Kibagendi accused President William Ruto of being a liar, a statement that was not taken in kind by Nyakundi, who was the MC.
Speaking to Citizen TV on Monday, MP Kibagendi confirmed that Nyakundi was not pleased with his anti-President Ruto statements and headed for the microphone while attempting to shove him off the dias.
"People were chanting one-term and because he is a sycophant of the system, he did not like that I was probably adding fuel to the fire, so he tried to grab the mic from me and tried to throw me off stage," he said.
He further argued that it was a light altercation and not a fight, verbally attacking MP Nyakundi for being unfit to face him in a brawl.
"Because of my fitness I managed to stop him, but of course the media had to call it a fight, it was not a fight. Had we fought, he is not as fit as I am. He may be huge but it's a lot of fat," he noted.
He however, maintained that he will not take accountability for the incident, arguing that the matter should have been handled with political civility and not a wrangle.
"It did not look good. There is absolutely no way I take responsibility because I was saying what I say everyday. He was uncomfortable with it and should have let me say what I said and he thought the best way was to grab the mic from me," he said.
