Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has now seemingly embraced his popular 'Riggy G' nickname.

Speaking during the 94th edition of the Kenya National Music Festival held in Kisumu on Friday, Gachagua expressed his joy regarding the creativity of the Kenyan youth following the moniker he had been given.

“Our young people are very creative, even I am amazed that our creative young people have given me a nickname,” he said.

“They have looked at my two names, Rigathi Gachagua, looked for something sounding easier, more melodious and called me 'Riggy G'. I don’t think it is a bad name.”

DP Gachagua had also previously mentioned the moniker during the luncheon held at State House in Nairobi after his inauguration alongside President William Ruto on September 13, 2022.

‘Riggy G’, which first popped up on Twitter during the deputy presidential debate in July, was coined by one, Ivy Chelimo, a law graduate student at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA).

Since then, Kenyans have been creating hilarious videos and creating memes on social media platforms, imitating the Deputy President, among them 22-year-old Zachariah Kariuki, a Kisii University student, who has become an instant hit online with his spot-on imitation of Gachagua.
