I need a re-election to settle my loans, says Governor Okoth Obado

Migori Governor Okoth Obado says he is servicing loans from two Kenyan banks whose interests have ballooned, and should he not retain the seat in 2017 General Election, he will face a serious financial crisis.

Governor Obado made the revelation Wednesday when addressing nurses who have threatened to down tools over non-remitted loan deductions.

Obado says, just like his medical staff, he is equally worried about the loans he has taken and that if he will not be re-elected in 2017, it will be ‘his funeral’.

The county executive says he was not aware that his employees’ loan deductions for November and December 2015 were not remitted.

He, nonetheless, says he does not find the nurses’ reasons to be sufficient enough to warrant a strike, maintaining their grievances can easily be resolved.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Union of Kenya Civil Servants Secretary Migori branch, Ondiek Magadi, said most employees in the county have been blacklisted by banks because their loan deductions were not remitted end last year.

Mr. Magadi said employees’ SACCOs including Afya and Ukulima have also been affected.

He says SACCO members lost over Ksh 13 million dividends in the financial year 2015/2016.
