Appearing before Justice Reuben Nyakundi, Lillian Biwott narrated that on October, 14, 2023, she had received a call from her husband Victor Kipchumba who threatened to kill their four children.
Lilian told the court that her house help had also called her informing her of the same, saying Kipchumba had been making calls to unknown persons informing them that he would end the lives of his children.
She said when she got into their bedroom, her husband who was armed with a knife became violent and started assaulting her.
They engaged in a quarrel for about an hour in their bedroom before the tragic incident took place.
She said when she realized that she had killed her husband, she knelt down to pray for forgiveness.
Lilian stunned the court when she said that had she not acted fast by firing at her husband, he would have killed her first.
She described her deceased husband who was a matatu driver as an abusive and violent man who used to insult and abuse her even in front of their children.
Lilian is accused of shooting her husband to death on the night of October 9, 2023 at their rental house in Kimumu estate along the Eldoret-Iten highway in Uasin Gishu County.
The mother of four has been detained at the Eldoret GK. Remand prison since her arrest last year after she was denied bond by the court on security grounds.
Justice Nyakundi directed that the case be heard on October 9 before the prosecution closes its case.
