I will concede defeat if I lose Uhuru

President Uhuru Kenyatta has accused the opposition for planning to subvert the will of Kenyans on or before the August 8 polls.

Speaking in a meeting held with the African Union chairperson, Thabo Mbeki, the President said that the opposition was not coming clear whether it was ready or not to accept the will of the people come August 8.

The President challenged the opposition leader, Raila Odinga, and his team to clear the doubt that they are not after the postponement of the August polls.

In a meeting with African Union Elections Observer team led by former South African President, Thabo Mbeki, President Kenyatta raised his concerns on opposition’s  repetitive actions demonstrating their efforts towards sabotaging the elections.

He added that the opposition is at its verge of disputing the voice of Kenyans and was questionably planning chaos since it is not interested in a fair democratic contest where voters chose leaders of their choice. He further said that he was ready together with his team to accept defeat if beaten in the August 8 elections.

“We have persistently declared that we are ready to accept the will of the people, but the opposition adamantly refuses to submit itself to that commitment,” said the President. “The reason is simple. Subversion of the will of Kenyans.”

The President also informed Mbeki’s team that the opposition’s attack on those in charge of security of  the state as well as the elections, was a clear sign of their intention to cause wrangles.

Uhuru equally promised the AU chair that he was committed into seeing Kenyans enjoy a free and fair election come August.

“The responsibility of securing the elections and the country lies with the Government,” said the President

The Head of State remained firm in his earlier stand that the election date still remains August 8 as stipulated in the Kenyan Constitution.

The AU chair said Kenya’s stability is crucial for the region and the continental body wants the country to have peaceful polls.

Mr Musa Faki, the Chadian chairperson of the AU Commission had accompanied Mr Mbeki to the meeting at State House, Nairobi.
