Deputy President
William Ruto has criticized his competitors accusing them of trying to hijack
the Big Four Agenda which he says he founded with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Ruto told his
political rival that he should be the one to oversee President Kenyatta's legacy
since he pioneered the Big Four plan, which was aimed at transforming the economy
and improve livelihoods, together with Kenyatta.
“Kwa sababu Rais
anaenda kustaafu mwaka ujao, na yule mtu ambaye alipanga na yeye mambo ya Big
Four, si hawa watu wa NASA, ni mimi nilipanga na Rais Kenyatta,” he said.
The DP was speaking on Friday
during a rally held at Cheptais, Mt. Elgon region in his second-day tour of
Bungoma County.
Ruto further stated
that he will incorporate the Big Four agenda into his 'bottom-up' economic model to ensure that all the promises contained
in the Big Four and his pledges see the light of day.
“Mimi nataka
niwaambie hio mpango yetu ya Big Four nitajumuisha na kuipangia ndani ya bottom
up ndio tuweze kutimiza ahadi yetu kwa WaKenya ya Big 4 na Bottom-up pamoja,” he explained.
Ruto stressed the
need to ensure that his promises are achieved by prioritising on his key
projects such as the creation of four million jobs for the youth.
“Our first agenda
will be to invest the money as we had planned in the Big Four, in youth
projects in a bid to create four million jobs for the youth,” Ruto emphasized.
On the issue of
unity in the country, the Deputy President accused his rivals of leading tribal
parties which instead of bringing Kenyans together have led to divisions.
He also addressed
media reports on his numerous trips across the country saying that unlike his
competitors who are holding meetings in hotels he has opted to go to the
ground.
“Hawa watu unaona
wanajaribu kunilaumu ati mbona naenda kuongea na wananchi wadogowadogo kule
mashinani. Mimi nataka niwaambie nyinyi mnakaa kwa hoteli, ati mnafikiri
mtakuja kutuamulia mkiwa kwa hoteli, mtakuja kujua hamjui, kwa sababu hawa
wananchi ndio wataamua," he said.
“I’m telling my
competitors, we are changing the politics of Kenya, it will no longer be
decided by brokers it will no longer be decided by leaders alone, it will be
decided by the people. Anybody wishing to seek any leadership position, you
must leave your comfort zones and talk to Kenyans at the grassroots,” Ruto
added.
The DP led the
hustler campaigns in Mt Elgon area where he covered Cheptais, Kimaeti and
Mateka markets in Bumula constituency.
Ruto was
accompanied by MPs John Waluke (Sirisia), Dan Wanyama (Webuye West), Fred
Kapondi (Mt Elgon), (Mumias East), Robert Pukose (Endebess) and (Kimilili).
