Ida Odinga given Kikuyu name, Nyawira

Ida Odinga, the wife of ODM leader Raila Odinga, was on Friday given a new name during her husband’s tour of the Mount Kenya region.

Ida, who was clad in traditional Kikuyu attire, was given the name Nyawira, by women leaders in Nyeri County, for her industriousness, perseverance and love for her family, community and country.

The ceremony was concluded with the women leaders gifting Ida with traditional Kikuyu items which she generously accepted, much to the excitement of the crowd that had gathered.

Ida has slowly been building her influence across the country in anticipation of next year’s elections where Raila is expected to vie for the presidency.
