The Independent Electoral and Boundaries
Commission (IEBC) has been awarded for its “excellent” management of procurement processes in the last year.
In the Kenya
Institute of Supply Management Awards held on Friday, the commission emerged third in the Public Procurement
Project of the Year category.
“The
Commission was yesterday feted for its excellent management of procurement
processes in the last year,” IEBC said in a tweet.
The event was held at the Carnivore Grounds
and was graced by the Chief of Staff and Head of
Public Service Hon. Felix Koskei.
The Kenya Institute of Supply
Management Award gala dinner recognizes individuals and organizations with best
practices in Supply Chain Management.
The honour comes amid a battle
between four of the seven election body’s commissioners and the President
William Ruto.
Ruto on Friday suspended Vice Chairperson Juliana Cherera as well as fellow
Commissioners Irene Masit, Justus Nyang'aya and Francis Wanderi, and
formed a tribunal to consider a petition seeking their removal from office.
In a Gazette
notice, the president said the decision came following a recommendation by the
National Assembly that sought to oust the commissioners over their conduct
during the August 9 General Election.
The four had disowned
the presidential election results.
With the
removal of the four, the country risks being without an electoral commission as
the term of the other three commissioners, Chairperson Wafula Chebukati, Abdi
Guliye, and Boya Molu is ending on January 18, 2023.
