IEBC now seeks Ksh.1B to move out of Nairobi CBD

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) now says it urgently needs Ksh.1 billion to move its offices out of Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).

Appearing before the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee on Tuesday, IEBC officials led by acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Marjan Hussein Marjan stated that they want to set up what they termed as ‘Uchaguzi Center’ to house their offices.

The commission also sought Ksh.89 million for the maintenance of the Kenya Integrated Election Management System (KIEMS) kit as well as the Biometric Voter Registration register whose review is two years late.

IEBC also wants Ksh.100 million to hire a consultant to audit its technology, Ksh.29 million for a data centre and a further Ksh.24 million for internet.
