‘IEBC should summon Moses Kuria over vote stealing claims,’ David Murathe says
Jubilee
party Vice-Chairman David Murathe now wants Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria summoned by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)
to shed light on remarks in which he insinuated that the 2017 presidential
elections were rigged.
On
Tuesday, while speaking during UDA’s National Delegates Convention (NDC) held
at Kasarani Stadium, Kuria stated that he, alongside
other Mt. Kenya leaders who have since allied themselves with DP Ruto, rigged
the 2017 elections in order to guarantee President Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory.
According
to Murathe, Kuria should be summoned by IEBC just like Murang’a Woman Rep Sabina Chege who recently made headlines for making assertions that alluded to possible election malpractice at the previous polls.
Murathe
however claims that Chege’s utterances were purely hypothetical compared to those
made by the Chama cha Kazi (CCK) frontman, who he says downright admitted that
he and some of his allies played a role in dubiously swaying the 2017 presidential
elections results.
“Moses’
case was specific since he said the people who rig are here and he has some
explanation to do to give to the IEBC about how they rigged and he said those
who were not there were not part of the rigging, so he should go to the IEBC
together with the ones he called by name and explain how they rigged the
elections,” Murathe said on the Citizen TV's News Night show.
Murathe
added that Kuria’s contentious remarks should come as no surprise
since the Gatundu South legislator purportedly has a history of engaging in
election malpractice. Murathe claimed that Kuria allegedly rigged himself into office when he
replaced the late Jossy Ngugi Nyumu in 2014.
“Incidentally
when Moses got into parliament, he went in through a by-election. Moses went through
a nomination process of TNA. One of the stations that Moses participated in he
garnered 4000 votes in a station which has 800 votes so this is something I think
they are used to,” he said.
“How
do you give someone 4000 votes in a
polling station which has 800 votes and you know the maximum you can get in any
polling station according to the IEBC is 800 and now it is like they are taking
the same bad habits to the DP ‘s campaign.”
While
castigating Kuria for picking a war of words with President Kenyatta during
numerous occasions on DP Ruto’s campaign trail, Murathe called out the Gatundu
South MP for opting out of the News Night show interview.
Kuria
was originally set to grace the show, hosted by veteran journalist Wahiga Mwaura,
alongside Murathe but canceled at the last minute without giving a clear explanation.
“I
was really excited to engage Moses this evening, you know he chickened out and
you know why he chickened out because he knew some of the issues we were going
to bring out tonight to expose the so-called wave which they are creating
around the Mountain,” Murathe said.
