IEBC talks will not include any other agenda, Kuria to CORD
Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has asked the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) to come to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) negotiation table with no hidden agenda.
Kuria said both Houses, the National Assembly and the Senate, passed the motion to set up the Joint Select Committee on IEBC saying Jubilee was ready to work.
The Legislator urged CORD not to introduce fresh agenda as a scheme to sabotage the negotiations on the electoral body.
“We are very clear that we are not going to allow any extension of the election date from 8th August next year under whatever circumstance, so whatever needs to be done let it be done,” he said
Kuria said they will not allow extension of election date and any vacuum in IEBC must be addressed immediately it arises.
He added that they will not allow mudslinging of IEBC commissioners and staff saying they are professionals who have worked hard to build their careers.
“If we must change, then we must do it diplomatically and without character assassination of IEBC commissioners,” he said.
“If it is musical chairs and splitting hairs, then we shall not accept that.”
Touching on the murder of the lawyer Willie Kimani, his client JosephatMwenda and their taxi driver Joseph Muiruri, Kuria condemned the murders saying the government, including the President, was not happy.
He also condemned the burning down of part of the Syokimau AP post saying it was not acceptable.
“Burning a police station does not make it better and is not a remedy or a solution to the alleged extrajudicial killings,” he said.
He was speaking in Kigumo, Murang’a County during the burial of Karanja Kiharika, father to Murang’a Governor’s personal assistant.
