Illicit liquor still on sale in Yatta

Residents of Mavoloni in Yatta want the government to take action on producers and sellers of illicit brew and second generation liquors in the area.

They claim that they have not felt the impact of the war on illicit brew in the area as it continues being sold in broad daylight.

They are accusing the area assistant chief and administration police officers of soliciting bribes instead of taking action on the brewers.

The government has already fired close to 100 administration officers and 15 cops for allegedly aiding the illicit brew trade.

Interior security cabinet secretary Joseph Nkaiserry further announced that 20,000 suspects have also been arrested since the presidential declaration on the war against illicit brew was made.

The CS issued stern warning to all those who are still doing the illegal business which has claimed hundreds of lives in the last four years.

Nkaissery had earlier put all chiefs, assistant chiefs and security officials on notice in the fight against illicit brew.
