Hundreds of Kisii residents threw caution to the wind and defied social-distancing rules on Thursday to mingle freely with Deputy President William Ruto.
A smattering of photos seen by Citizen Digital showed local residents- scores without masks- fighting to greet the second-in-command who was flanked by South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro.
Ruto strode through town, addressing the crowd from the sun-roof of his vehicle on a visit that had earlier on been marred by protests.

On Thursday morning, anti-Ruto protests had rocked Kisii town with pro-handshake protesters blocking roads.
Another wing of Ruto supporters, among them bodaboda riders joined the fray, attempting to repulse the anti-Ruto protesters.
Normalcy was restored hours later after police officers lobbed teargas at the protesters, successfully dispersing them.
DP Ruto is expected to meet bodaboda riders, market traders and a section of Gusii leaders.
