Inmates taking courses will be pardoned, prisons department says

The prisons department says it will now consider pardoning inmates who have graduated with various courses while in jail.

The Director of Correction and Rehabilitation Mary Khaemba says this will be done through the recently formed Mercy of Justice Committee.

She made the remarks as over 200 inmates and warders graduated with diplomas and certificates in Theology and Counselling at the Naivasha GK Prison.

The officer says education has helped reform many inmates and urged relatives to embrace those who leave the country’s correctional facilities.

Among the graduands was police impostor Joshua Waiganjo who is currently serving a five-year jail term.
