Detectives are investigating the cause of a Wednesday morning fire that reduced property of unknown value to ashes near Roysambu on the busy Thika Superhighway.

According to eyewitnesses who spoke with citizen digital, the fire was started by sparks from welding operations on the business premises.

The renovation on the ground floor of the building, which housed a furniture vending business, spilt over to the ground floor, which housed a motor vehicle garage, resulting in the fire.

Some of the property that went up in flames included several vehicles undergoing various repairs on the ground floor, as well as a variety of modern seats and beds on the first floor.

Residents complained about the Nairobi City County's poor fire engine services, which took too long to arrive at the scene, and urged the county government to improve Nairobi's disaster response units.

Police officers from the Kasarani DCI offices visited and documented the scene as investigations began.
