IPOA concludes probe into the deaths of Embu brothers, file forwarded to DPP

The Inspector General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai, has revealed that all officers implicated in the deaths of two Embu brothers in custody have been suspended to allow for their prosecution.

IG Mutyambai said in a tweet on Monday that the Independent Police Oversight Authority had completed its investigation and had forwarded the file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

“IPOA has concluded investigations on the matter and forwarded the file to the DPP for action,” IG Mutyambai Tweeted  on Monday “Meanwhile, all the officers have been suspended with immediate effect to pave way for prosecution,”

According to the Inspector General, justice will be served for the Kianjokoma brothers, but only if the proper due processes are allowed to take place.

“I assure you that justice for the Kianjokoma brothers will be served, but this can only be done if we allow the proper due process to take place with concrete evidence that can stand a trial in the court of justice,” he added.

The Manyatta police station made it to the news for all the wrong reasons two weeks ago after it emerged that two siblings who had been arrested for reportedly breaking COVID-19 protocol had died.

The officers would give a tall-tale that the two died from injuries sustained after they jumped off a moving police car while trying to escape custody.

An autopsy would however reveal that the two died from blunt force trauma, discrediting the theory advanced by the cops.

The deaths of the siblings sparked week-long protests in Embu in which a civilian was killed and a police van torched.
