Speaking on Citizen TV’s JKLive show on Wednesday, Murkomen reiterated that the President remains well protected and dismissed suggestions that the Migori incident reflected a lapse in presidential security.
On the shoe incident, the Interior CS stated: "That is not unprecedented. It happened to (George) Bush. At least it was not such a harmful thing."
Murkomen added that investigations are ongoing to determine the actual circumstances of the incident.
"But investigations are ongoing to establish what happened...whether the person threw the shoe or, as was shown from different angles, one of the friends just hit the shoe and it flew towards the president," said the CS.
He further urged authorities to exercise discretion and fairness in their handling of any suspects.
"I would not like anyone to jeopardise the lives of young people by subjecting them to further charges in court and angusih and ostracised around that they tried to hit the president. If evidence shows that it was not intended or malicious, then the DCI should close the file," Murkomen said.
He emphasised that there has never been a moment when he believed the President’s life, or that of any senior public official, was in danger due to such incidents.
"There is no threat to the life of the president, deputy president or any other public officer, particularly when they go to areas with heightened security procedures," he concluded.
Three people were arrested following the shoe-throwing incident but were later released without charges.
