Isiolo: Three dead, several others injured in separate bandit attacks

Two bandit attacks in Isiolo County early Sunday left three people dead and several others injured.

Livestock were stolen in both incidents, but a coordinated response by law enforcement resulted in the recovery of the majority of the stolen animals.

The first attack occurred at Hola Bule around 12:35 a.m.

Bandits armed with assault rifles broke into a private home, opened fire, and stole 19 cattle.

Police from Isiolo, along with officers from Kulamawe, NPR personnel, and ASTU teams, responded quickly and recovered all of the stolen cattle.

This attack claimed the life of a resident, identified as Yusuf Hassan Ali, who suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. 

Two other people, including an NPR officer, received minor injuries on their left thighs as a result of gunfire.

Both were treated at a local hospital and have since been released in stable condition.

The second attack occurred around 2:30 a.m. in the Bojidare area.

According to the Inspector General, an unknown number of heavily armed bandits entered the manyattas and started shooting randomly.

The attackers stole an unknown number of cattle and 300 goats, causing widespread panic among locals.

Local law enforcement, assisted by the National Police Reserve (NPR), conservancy officers, and the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) from Gotu, moved were deployed quickly to apprehend the bandits. 

Their efforts led to the recovery of all the stolen goats and approximately 30 cattle.

During the incident, two people lost their lives.

Three others were injured and were immediately transported to Isiolo District Hospital for treatment.

The bodies of the deceased have been transported to their respective locations, one to Garbatulla and the other to Isiolo, for final Muslim burial rites.

Law enforcement officials, led by Isiolo's Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), have launched investigations into the attacks. 

In response to these attacks, reinforcements from Isiolo Police Station, ASTU Elat, and additional NPR officers have been deployed to the affected areas to provide increased security and deter further violence.
