Speaking during an
interview at KTN’s News Hour show on Wednesday night, the
leader of The Service Party ((TSP) pointed out that a
lot will happen between now and August 2022.
“A lot will happen between now and April 2022. Eight months is a very long time and also a very short time. The day will be carried in the month of January and February,” he said.
While referencing instances in the country when the political direction has been altered by the time factor, the former three-time Laikipia East MP gave a case scenario of 1992, 2002 and 2017 general elections.
“The original FORD Party in 1992 was really huge, it was a movement but during the last year, it disintegrated. The DP came in the other party came and they lost the elections. Nobody thought that the Late President Moi could win the elections,” he said.
“The same case was also seen during 2002 elections when former President Mwai Kibaki became the president after a short timed alliance,” he added.
At the same time Kiunjuri stressed that at this time, no one should underestimate the other since the future is unknown as politicians are forming alliances, stating that ' the Mountain is still slippery.'
“We have been there for a long time. There is no way you can just wake up and decide that this grouping of Mwangi Kiunjuri, Martha Karua, Peter Kenneth and other 17 leaders are just a group of tribal chiefs,” he argued.
“In terms of who we're going to support, it is not a discussion to the table. We're discussing what is of interest to this country and to our people then, between January and February, we will be able to come up with the decision on who to follow, " Mwangi said.
'Our agenda is thinking about the future of our region and the country at large, what will happen after 2022" he added.
"When the hunter learns to shoot without missing, the birds also learn to fly without perching," he cited the proverb to express how politics and competition will be taking a new course as the elections draw nearer.
"Any act of violence must be condemned. What happened to the DP today can happen to you also. It is good for us to restrain our supporters and condemn them and allow the police to do their work, " he said.
