Former Prime Minister and Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leader Raila Odinga now alleges that controversial businessman Jacob Juma was killed by a special police wing – the Flying Squad.

Raila, who was addressing CORD supporters outside the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices during protests against the poll body, said that Juma’s murder was well planned and executed by the Jubilee administration using the Flying squad officers.

He further alleged that the death of Juma was linked to the amount of information he had on the Eurobond, the National Youth Service (NYS) scam and the other major graft cases facing the government.

“Juma knew a lot about the Eurobond and the NYS. We were conducting investigations with him,” said Raila.

The CORD leader said they had planned a meeting with the late Juma last week but this was not to happen as he was gunned down on Thursday near Lenana School as he was driving towards his Karen residence.

He further pointed out that Juma’s death would not be in vain.

“His death will not be in vain. We will avenge by removing Jubilee from power come next year.”

Juma was shot dead by unknown assailants Thursday night as he drove home.

According to police reports, the businessman’s car had ten bullet holes, an indication that he was shot multiple times.

On Sunday, Raila called on the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to investigate the murder of Juma claiming that the government cannot be tasked with the responsibility of leading the investigation since it is a key suspect in the murder.

He said that only foreign agencies like America’s FBI and the Scotland Yard can carry proper investigations without being manipulated.

Juma was a vocal critic of the Jubilee government, something Raila says led to his death.

“Jacob Juma was very vocal about of corruption in the government, and we suspect that it is for this reason that he was killed. The manner in which he was killed is synonymous with extra judicial killings. Jacob Juma has done a lot for this country by exposing corruption.  We suspect that it is for this reason that he was killed.”
