President William Ruto's move to nominate elected leaders to sit in his Cabinet has set the stage for a fresh round of political activity close to two months since the conclusion of the last elections.

By-elections are set to be held for two parliamentary seats and one senatorial position following the nomination of Garissa Township MP Aden Duale, Kandara MP Alice Wahome and Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen to Cabinet.

In Elegeyo Marakwet County, two aspirants -- Active Citizen Jerotich Seii and Real Estate Developer Tim Kipchumba -- have already confirmed they will be in the race to succeed Murkomen, who was proposed for the position of Transport Cabinet Secretary.

Jerotich Seii is a vocal human rights defender and was part of the Linda Katiba movement which was a major of the controversial BBI process that was nullified by the court.

In 2018, she spearheaded the #SwitchOffKPLC campaign that sought to call out the inconveniences faced by electricity consumers in the country.

Tim Kipchumba, who grew up in Kapkomora village in Marakwet East, is a solar and real estate developer. He has previously been listed in Business Daily's Top 40 Under 40 list of the most influential and progressive personalities.

Kipchumba is also a Co-Founder of Questworks, a firm of consultants in the real estate industry, and Co-Author and Mentor at Mentorthon.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is set to announce the dates when the by-elections shall be conducted.
