A 23-year-old student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) is expected to be arraigned at a Thika Law Court after he was arrested yesterday for allegedly killing his roommate on Sunday night.

Josphat Nyambuga, an architecture student, is reported to have hit Arnold Otieno, 21, on the head with a blunt object who later collapsed and died on that fateful night.

According to Juja Sub-county police commander Phyllis Muthoni, the suspect covered the corpse with a bedsheet and stashed it under the bed without reporting to anyone.

“After we got the report on Monday at around 8pm, we visited the scene and found the suspect in the same room, living with the body of the deceased,” Muthoni told Citizen Digital.

The suspect then confessed to killing the telecommunication engineering student, telling the police that the deceased came back in the room drunk and disorderly, triggering a heated exchange that cost his life.

Nyambuga was arrested and locked at Juja police station as police continue to gather more evidence to charge the suspect.

Meanwhile, Otieno’s body was transferred to Thika’s General Kago funeral home.
