Joho is using County Gov’t to muzzle my campaign – Awiti

Nyali MP Hezron Awiti has accused Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho of using underhanded tactics in the ongoing campaigns, specifically stating that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) heavyweight has blocked opponents from erecting billboards.

Addressing a press conference at Uhuru Gardens, the Vibrant Democratic Party (VDP) candidate said that only Joho’s billboards have been erected along the busiest roads such as Nyali Bridge.

Awiti lamented that four of his billboards – which cost him Ksh.1.8 million – have been rejected by Joho’s administration without explanation.

The sitting MP – who will be facing off with Joho’s cousin, Said Salim alias Saido, come August 8 – says that the county has not responded to a letter inquiring why his billboards were not approved.

This comes only two days after a section of Jubilee politicians eying for various political seats in Mombasa County accused the county government of tilting the scales in the Opposition’s favour by rejecting their billboards.

The Jubilee Party gubernatorial candidate Suleiman Shahabal claimed that Governor Joho’s government had refused to accept for the advertising slots.

Speaking Friday in Mombasa Shabal and Jubilee women aspirant Bi Amina Abdallah they said such leadership should not be allowed to exist.

They further claimed that Joho’s supporters have been destroying their posters a matter they said is unacceptable.
